Despite a complete skincare routine, blackheads keep blemishing your skin? Discover our tips to clear them and prevent their proliferation!

Why do blackheads appear?

Our skin is composed of pores whose role is to evacuate the sebum generated by the skin and sweat. Sebum maintains the skin’s moisture level but is sometimes produced in excessive quantities. In this case, dead cells and impurities accumulate in the pores and they can get clogged.  This is how these dark brown comedones appear on the surface of the skin: blackheads. They generally appear on the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), the oiliest area of the face.

Several factors can influence the production of sebum and therefore the appearance of blackheads: hormonal changes, stress, exposure to pollution or even diet create favorable conditions for their creation.

How to get rid of them?

First and foremost, do not touch your blackheads and try to remove them with your hands. You could cause an inflammation and the emergence of real acne spots. Instead, start with a facial sauna, which uses the heat of steam to open your pores. Simply tilt your head over a bowl of boiling water and cover it with a towel for a few minutes. This will soften blackheads and make them easier to remove.

Then you can apply a white clay mask, such as our Shea Radiance Mask, to absorb excess oil and purify your skin. Anti-blackhead strips are also a solution to effectively remove them, but this is not appropriate for sensitive skin.

Prevent the appearance of blackheads

To avoid the appearance of blackheads, it is important to adapt your skincare routine. Choose lighter textures: our Shea Day Lotion will moisturize your skin without leaving a greasy film. In addition, replace skin-damaging products with more gentle ones. For example, stop using alcohol-based toners and lotions and switch to floral waters. Use enzymatic scrubs (without grains) that exfoliate more gently.

Finally, the quality of your diet can influence the appearance of blackheads. Reduce your intake of sugar and fats and instead, choose a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and cereals.
