Sensations of discomfort, tightness, appearance of fine lines…All signs that reflect dehydrated skin. Discover our advice and gestures to adopt to get rid of it!

What is dehydrated skin?

Contrary to common beliefs, dehydration is not a skin type but a skin condition: it is often temporary and can affect dry skin such as combination or oily skin.  It is a lack of water due to the fragility of the skin tissue, which is then unable to retain the water it usually contains.

Dehydrated skin is symptomised by occasional tightness, loss of radiance and the appearance of redness and fine lines. Moreover, skin can feel rough to the touch.

What are the causes?

The causes of dehydration are multiple. Firstly, the origins can be external, such as very low or artificial temperatures (heating, air conditioning), a polluted environment or sun exposure.

Secondly, internal factors can also encourage its appearance such as stress, fatigue or the use of cosmetics that are not adapted or too aggressive for your skin. Furthermore, It is necessary to take into account the health practices: the consumption of alcohol, tobacco or sugar has an influence on the skin hydration.

How to remedy this?

First of all, it is essential to adopt a healthy lifestyle if you want to rebalance your skin: drinking at least 1.5 L of water a day, eating a healthy diet, controlling your sugar, salt and fat intake are all actions that will help the skin regain its moisture level.

Secondly, dehydrated skin needs to adapt skincare routine to meet its need for water. Thus, every morning apply a serum that contains active moisturizing principles before your day cream. In the evening, complete your skincare routine with a night cream such as our Shea Moisturizing Night Cream. It provides in-depth hydration and soft skin upon awakening. Finally, apply once or twice a week a moisturizing mask such as our Shea Hydra Mask to intensely moisturize your skin and restore its radiance.

Regain a radiant and luminous skin thanks to our Shea Illuminating Face Cream Home recipe.
