We thought that time was definitely behind us and yet… According to studies, nearly 25% of people over the age of 25 are affected by this scourge, the majority of whom are women. This disease is a source of discomfort for many of them, we will help you to better understand it in order to get rid of it.

Adult acne, what is it?

Acne is defined as a disturbance of the sebaceous glands, which are responsible for the secretion of sebum.

The sebum forms a film that acts to protect and maintain the moisturization of our skin. In the case of acne, it is produced in abnormally high quantities, causing the appearance of blackheads.

It is important to know that adult acne is different from teenage acne. It is generally located on the U area of the face (jaw, chin and neck) and sometimes the back and bust are affected. Adult acne is said to be inflammatory with red pimples, blackheads or microcysts.

What are the causes ?

Acne is generally due to stress, pollution or a poor lifestyle: tobacco, alcohol, too much sugar in the diet.

Prolonged exposure to the sun can be the cause. Even if some people see a clear improvement in their acne thanks to the sun, it is a false friend. Indeed, the sun dries out the skin and will therefore increase the production of sebum.

Acne can also appear in women as a result of a hormonal imbalance during the menstrual period.

How do we get rid of it?

Gently cleanse

Many of us think that by intensively cleansing our skin, sebum production will decrease and our imperfections will disappear, but this is a mistake. In fact, it is necessary to favour a gentle cleansing to avoid entering a vicious circle. Tell yourself that the more your skin is going to feel aggressed, the more sebum it will produce and consequently more pimples.

Cleanse your skin twice a day: morning and evening. To do this, use our Micellar Water, which gently removes make-up and cleanses the skin thanks to its formula composed of 96% of ingredients of natural origin and without perfume. To better understand the importance of skin cleansing, it is this way.

Moisturize

Apply a treatment in the morning and evening that suits your skin type. For example, if you have a combination to oily skin, choose a fluid (lighter texture) such as our Shea Day Lotion.

Exfoliate

Exfoliate once a week to remove impurities and allow your skin to regenerate.

Then, leave our Shea Radiance Mask with white clay on for a few minutes to purify and moisturize your skin.

Change your diet

Food influences the condition of our skin.

Avoid foods with a high glycemic index and dairy products because they increase the availability of hormones involved in the development of acne.

Favour foods rich in nutrients and omega-3s, foods with a low glycemic index such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, poultry and oilseeds.

You now have all the cards in your hand to beat your acne.
