After long months of dreariness and cold, summer is finally on the horizon, and so are sunburns… Discover today how best to prepare your skin for the first rays of sunshine.

Why prepare your skin before summer?

During the winter, and until the first temperature rises, our skin remains timidly hidden under layers of clothing. The mistake you should not make is to go and relax in the sun after months without being exposed to it.

Consequences of early exposure quickly appear: sunburn, dry skin, even premature skin aging in the longer term. So, to avoid this uncomfortable situation, you should prepare your skin to face the sun’s rays.

How best to prepare your skin?

Food

You may not know it, but it all starts on the inside. For a tanned skin in summer, think about changing your eating habits and favour foods that are rich in beta-carotene, antioxidants, vitamins or Omega 3. They will help prepare your skin and protect it from UV rays.

On the menu, we therefore have: carrots, watermelon, tomatoes, red peppers, salmon, vegetable oils… A tasty and balanced diet that will nourish your skin from the inside!

Scrub

Removing dead skin is essential for a long-lasting tan. Before exposing yourself to the sun, exfoliate your skin once or twice a week on damp skin.

We recommend a gentle exfoliation, like the one in our DIY recipe, which will take care of your skin without attacking it.

Hydration

A moisturized skin is a beautifully radiant skin! To prepare it for exposure, remember to moisturize it morning and evening.

For your face, opt for our Shea Day Lotion, ideal for summer. It lightly nourishes your skin and gives a pleasant sensation of freshness. Its gel-cream texture moisturizes your skin delicately, without leaving an oily film.

As for your body, cover it with comfort with our Shea Body Milk. It restores your skin’s suppleness and softness thanks to Shea Butter. Its melting texture penetrates easily. In summer, succumb to our Lemon Verbena fragrance, for a moment of guaranteed freshness!

Progressive exposure

No, exposing yourself all afternoon to the sun at its first appearance will not make you tan faster… On the contrary, you will certainly get a sunburn that will deprive you of tanning for a few days. Thus, the best way to avoid burns is gradual exposure.

During the first few days, it is best to have a short exposure of about fifteen minutes with sun protection, outside the hottest hours of the day. This will allow your skin to get used to it again and avoid burning it during your future tanning sessions.

You are now ready to bask in the sun!
