A sunburn, peeling skin, and we are already thinking of forgetting about our dream of a perfect tan… Do not worry, it is never too late! Follow our guide to get rid of this occasional flaking.

Why does our skin peel?

In summer, there is a main reason for desquamation: sunburn! By falling asleep on the beach, we forget the risks… Even a protected skin can suffer after long sun exposure outside the recommended hours.

Our epidermis then becomes dehydrated, even burnt. Afterwards, the skin renews itself by getting rid of a lot of dead cells, to leave the top layer as new: it peels.

In addition to being unaesthetic, desquamation is generally accompanied by itching, linked to the healing of the skin.

How can you save your skin?

Take a fresh start

You have taken the heat, and so has your skin… If hot showers and baths are not a common practice in the middle of summer, we advise you to banish them from your daily routine until your skin has fully recovered.

Therefore, prefer cold to warm showers. To avoid further damage to your skin, opt for a non-drying cleansing product, such as our Shea Cream Wash. Enriched with Shea Butter, it gently cleanses your skin while preserving it.

Act afterwards

To soothe your skin, remember to apply an after-sun care product on clean, dry skin.

Our homemade Shea & Aloe Vera Calming After Sun helps repair your skin thanks to the allantoin in Shea Butter, which is very repairing.

Its action is completed by Aloe Vera, which is ideal for calming and relieving reddened or burnt skin while providing a particularly pleasant gel texture to apply.

Do not exfoliate

One of the preconceived ideas about peeling skin is to say goodbye to it with a scrub. This is a mistake!

Certainly, this treatment is intended to eliminate dead skin. But when your epidermis is a victim of desquamation, it is particularly vulnerable. Exfoliating will only irritate and further damage your skin. So before going back to your weekly exfoliation, wait a week!

Drink enough

It all starts on the inside… first habit to adopt? Drinking about 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day. Your skin will thank you!

Also add all water-rich fruits and vegetables to your diet: watermelon, melon, strawberry, cucumber, tomato… A colourful menu!

Think hydration

There is only one key word to get rid of occasional desquamation: HYDRATION! Your skin is extremely dry. More than ever, it needs to be deeply moisturized and nourished.

On the surface, moisturize your skin three times a day with our 100% Pure Shea Butter. Bursting with moisturizing and nourishing active ingredients, it restores moisture and suppleness to your skin and nourishes it deep down.

By arming yourself with patience, all these tricks will help you find a beautiful new skin!

Flaking is not the only consequence of prolonged exposure to the sun: premature aging of the skin, dull complexion… To prevent these problems, discover our After-Sun Survival Kit.
